Atrovent Medicine - Uses, Dosage and Side Effects

Atrovent is used to prevent bronchospasm, or narrowing airways in the lungs, in people with bronchitis, emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Atrovent nasal spray use to treat runny nose. The 0.03% spray is used for year-round runny nose due to allergies and other causes.

Atrovent Dosage

If you are using aerosol or solution, then the usual starting dose is 2 inhalations, 4 times per day. The usual adult dose is 2 sprays in each nostril 3 or 4 times a day. The recommended dose for children age 5 to 11 is 2 sprays in each nostril 3 times a day. Do not use for more than 4 days and do not give it to children under 5.

Uses of Atrovent

It helps to relieve a runny nose due to seasonal allergies or non-allergic seasonal causes, like a runny nose from a cold.

Side Effects of Atrovent

Before taken Atrovent medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor. If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. blurred vision

•dizziness
•headache
•infection in the respiratory tract
•nausea
•nosebleeds
•cough
•dry mouth, metallic taste in your mouth
•dry nose, irritation, burning or itching in the nose
•stuffy nose

Warnings and precautions before taking Atrovent:

Before taking ipratropium, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to atropine or other belladonna-type drugs; or if you have any other allergies. If you develop eye pain, blurred vision, very dry nose, or nosebleeds after using the nasal spray, then you should tell your doctor.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Atrovent with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. When using the aerosol or solution, do not take other inhaled medications unless your doctor approves. Check with your doctor before combining Atrovent with spasm-quelling medications such as Donnatal and Levsin.

Overdose

There is no information on specific symptoms of Atrovent overdose. But after taken Atrovent if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Adverse reactions reported for patients who received Atrovent nasal spray 0.03%, 42 µg per nostril, or placebo 2 or 3 times daily
